How Trump Gained Voters in Parts of Rhode Island

Donald Trump had a much-improved performance in Rhode Island and the nation last week compared with his previous two presidential campaigns. In part, he won over more working class voters, Latinos and Black voters. Those results surprised some and caused others to ask why Democrats are losing part of their appeal to voters.

Our political reporter Ian Donnis sat down with two local observers to discuss that question: state Representative Jon Brien, a conservative Democrat-turned-independent from Woonsocket; and Lauren Niedel, a progressive Democratic State Committee member from Glocester.
