Opportunity:
Rhode Island PBS and The Public’s Radio is seeking an artist to design and install a portable mural in the Community Room of the public media station at 50 Park Lane in Providence. This project celebrates the newly merged organization and the community that it serves in Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts.
Site:
Rhode Island PBS and The Public’s Radio merged in the spring of 2024 to leverage their collective strengths to lead a more powerful and trusted public media source and better serve the Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts communities. RIPBS-TPR plays a critical role in fostering understanding, goodwill, and connection in the community. We spark imagination, explore our history and reflect the values of our diverse region.
Guided by civic engagement, we provide unique, high-quality local, national and international programming, and digital content that educates, inspires and engages. The Community Room of the public media station at 50 Park Lane is a flexible space for connection, collaboration, and learning utilized by staff, members, educators, students, and community members. The movable artwork will be installed on a wall that is 25 feet x 10 feet.
Mural:
On view for all who visit the station and able to be moved as the merged organization adapts and identifies shifting needs, the mural will reflect Rhode Island PBS and The Public’s Radio’s diverse community. The vibrant and engaging work will consider the historical, current, and future existence of the organization and the area which it serves.
It will creatively fill the open space.
Artist:
- Is based in Rhode Island or Southeastern Massachusetts.
- Consents to the documentation of the project including the potential for scheduled interviews, observations, and filming.
- Must provide a W9.
- Has prior experience designing and managing the installation of a mural.
- Is able to complete and install the work no later than March 7, 2025.
Budget:
Proposals will include an estimated budget that does not exceed $5,000 inclusive of artist fees, project materials, and installation costs.
