The CRO will help us shape the future of public media for Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts. This comes at a transformative time, following the merger of Rhode Island PBS and The Public’s Radio in the spring of 2024.

Chief Revenue Officer Position Summary
The Chief Revenue Officer (CRO) is a strategic leader, responsible for all revenue-generating activities across newly merged public media organization that includes TV, radio and digital. As a key partner to the CEO and a member of the senior leadership team, the CRO will drive a comprehensive revenue strategy that supports both immediate and long-term growth. Strong leadership skills are a must, this role will oversee major gifts, corporate sponsorship, individual donor recruitment, underwriting, and events. The CRO will play a critical role in the community and local corporate development space, focusing on growing new revenue, retaining current members and exploring emerging revenue streams. We are seeking a strategic leader with a proven, analytical, metrics-driven approach. The CRO will help build the brand’s reputation across the region while creating a high-performing team, fostering a collaborative culture, and uniting two recently merged organizations under a shared mission and vision.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
- Strategic Leadership:
- Serve as a strategic partner to the CEO and members of the senior leadership team, contributing to the organization’s overall vision and growth.
- Play a critical role in the community developing new corporate sponsors and cultivating major donors.
- Develop and implement an integrated revenue strategy to meet short and long-term financial goals.
- Seize new opportunities for growth strategies and initiatives by analyzing trends and performance and identifying innovative revenue channels and partnerships.
- Chart a clear course for the future, aligning revenue policies and strategies with organizational objectives and market needs.
- Establish and track metrics and KPIs to assess progress, ensuring transparency in reporting on revenue growth and success.
- Culture Building and Team Integration:
- Serve as a strategic partner to the CEO and senior leadership team, contributing to the organization’s overall vision and growth.
- Play a key role in building a strong, unified culture that brings together the values and strengths of the merged TV and radio organizations.
- Foster a sense of shared mission and purpose across departments, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and community impact.
- Encourage open communication, collaboration, and mutual respect among team members to support a smooth transition and lasting cultural cohesion.
- Team Building and Management
- Build, lead, and oversee a high-performing revenue team across corporate sponsorship, membership, development, events and underwriting
- Cultivate a team culture of accountability, collaboration, and results-driven performance.
- Recruit, develop and retain top talent, prioritizing individuals with vision and a commitment to public media’s mission.
- Foster an environment of innovation, encouraging team members to explore new ideas that support revenue goals.
- Revenue Growth and Oversight
- Oversee all revenue-generating activities, ensuring they are effectively implemented, integrated and aligned with the organization’s mission.
- Guide and support the development of sponsorship, underwriting, membership, and major giving strategies to drive sustainable growth.
- Get out into the community alongside the CEO, Corporate Support Director, and Development Staff to help broker high-level deals and opportunities and make presentations with corporate sponsors, donors, and community leaders.
- Develop relationships with corporate sponsors and donors to maximize revenue opportunities.
- With the CEO, develops revenue goals and ensures targets are met.
- High-Level Oversight of Vendors and Partnerships
- Oversee and manage key external partnerships and vendors critical to the organization’s revenue success.
- Provide high-level oversight of CDP, the vendor managing outsourced Membership operations, holding them accountable for performance standards and ensuring alignment with the organization’s goals.
- Ensure that all vendor and partner relationships support and advance the organization’s objectives, with a focus on delivering exceptional results on the Membership front.
- Cross-Departmental Alignment and Collaboration
- Ensure that all vendor and partner relationships support and advance the organization’s objectives, with a focus on delivering exceptional results on the Membership front.
- Act as a liaison between revenue teams and other departments, including programming, marketing, and communications, to create a cohesive approach to revenue generation and to achieve revenue goals.
- Work closely with the board and community stakeholders to garner support and resources for revenue initiatives.
- Collaborate with finance and operations to develop accurate revenue forecasts and manage budgets effectively.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, in management, business, or a related field required. Advanced education or certifications preferred.
- Diverse Revenue Expertise: The ideal candidate brings 10+ years of expertise in one or more of the following areas: Development, Direct Marketing, Fundraising, Digital Marketing, Digital Fundraising, and Business Development, with the ability to apply this knowledge to drive both digital and traditional revenue strategies.
- Experience in or a strong understanding of public media is highly desirable, as is knowledge of its funding models, audience engagement, and community impact.
- Demonstrated success in revenue generation and team leadership within a complex, mission-driven organization.
- Experience in leading change and navigating organizational transitions.
- Proven track record in people management, leading cross-functional teams, fostering positive organizational culture, and managing stakeholder relationships at all levels.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Work environment is office and broadcast production studios.
- Able to sit at a work station, concentrate viewing computer screens for an extended period of time.
- High utilization of office equipment.
- Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time and bend
- Able to travel locally. (15%-25%). Occasional out-of-state travel.
- Occasional work on weekends and evenings may be required.

Compensation: Commensurate with experience. Salary range available upon request.
