Position: Broadcast Engineer
Reports to :Manager of Broadcasting Engineering, Facilities, and Technology
Supervises: None
Exempt / Non-Exempt:Non-Exempt
Compensation: $30.90 Hourly
Summary: The Broadcast Engineer is responsible for the technical operation of the Rhode Island PBS Broadcast, Over The Top (OTT) digital streaming, and Video On Demand (VOD) facility.

Specific Duties (including but not limited to):

  • Manage, maintain, operate and troubleshoot the following systems:
    • Broadcast signal pursuant to Federal Communication Commission (“FCC”) regulations.
    • Over The Top (OTT) Streaming systems
    • Manage Broadcast IT network
    • Commercial Channel Share broadcast system in coordination with NBC Universal.
    • Broadcast applications and systems, including, digital routers, processors embedders, de-embedders, up-converters, down-converters, distribution amplifiers, digital video play out servers, archive LTO storage, RAID systems, digital satellite receivers, digital audio mixers, SMPTE 259M and SMPTE 292M routing, AES3 routing, digital intercom, 3G cameras, PTZ cameras, high powered VHF TV transition, KVM systems and other applications and systems as needed.
    • Non-functioning RF broadcast, point-to-point microwave systems, and OTT IT streaming systems.
    • Non-functioning video/audio routing, and video/audio processing, distribution, audio/video playback/recording
    • Multichannel Video Program Distributor (MVPDs) head end feeds.
    • Digital encoding systems
  • Creation of AutoCAD schematic flow diagrams
  • Contribute to the development and operation of the in-house workflows of audio/video files, supporting metadata, and codec transcoding manipulation.
  • Work individually or with other staff members.
  • Write brief technical reports in a clear and organized manner.
  • Setup and configure Centos, PC and Apple-based systems.
  • Mentor other engineering technicians.

Education / Experience / Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent course credits required / Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 4 years of Broadcast experience at a television station or a strong math and science background.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to read and understand technical flow schematics.
  • Ability to produce technical documentation.
  • Ability to function as an effective team member.
  • Ability to work independently, make decisions and work on multiple projects at one time.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Professional attitude.
  • Knowledge of software, and development best practices.
  • Workdays, nights, weekends, holidays.
