Email share

This summer, escape into the northern countryside with Scotland’s Scenic Railways, a three-part miniseries on WSBE Rhode Island PBS. Traveling the length and breadth of Scotland’s most breathtaking landscapes, the series meets with the train crews, engineers, and volunteers who keep the steam-powered railways running. Tune in Mondays at 10 p.m. for the following episodes:

Episode #101 - Monday, July 5 at 10 p.m.
Following in Harry Potter's footsteps, the journey begins on The Jacobite as it steams across the historic Glenfinnan Viaduct. Then, viewers are invited aboard the Caledonian Sleeper on a 24-hour journey to the U.K.'s highest station at Corrour. Episode highlights include a ride in the footplate, tea on the Royal Deeside Railway, and a farewell tour of Scotland with the A4 steam locomotive Union of South Africa

Episode #102 - Monday, July 12 at 10 p.m.
The journey continues with a profile of the Flying Scotsman — the world's most iconic locomotive. On the Oban Line, soak in the scenery of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. Stop in at the Firth of Clyde and the historic Wemyss Bay, and visit the Scottish Railway Preservation Society at Bo'ness, where veterans pass down the knowledge of generations past. Then, meet photographer Jayne Wright as she takes No.19, a locomotive from the 1950s, to Manuel Station.

Episode #103 - Monday, July 19 at 10 p.m.
Join conductor Suzie Sangan for a personal tour of the West Highland Line, widely regarded as one of the most beautiful railways in the world. Meet the engineers abseiling beneath the Forth Bridge as they carry out essential checks on the iconic Unesco Heritage Site. Finally, visit Blair Castle for pipes and pageantry at the Atholl Highland Gathering.
